Process of Learning Yoga

There are many things being taught under the umbrella of the word yoga, and there are many people who teach with lack of knowledge and experience.

A great number of people who teach yoga today are not qualified to do so, regardless of certificates from yoga institutions or registrations from various yoga associations proclaiming them to be teachers.

As you progress in your understanding, you will become increasingly better able to differentiate between the good and the bad, the profound and the superficial.

Ultimately, with enough experience and practice, you will become your own guide. However, developing the knowledge and understanding to do this can take years or even decades of disciplined practice.

Many mistakenly believe that they are no longer beginners simply because of the fact that they have been ?practicing yoga? for a few years or more. Yoga is a life-long study, and one should not claim proficiency in it without due consideration.

It should be distressing to know that many who teach yoga have scarcely one or two months of training?some even less!

As a beginner, place your faith in the ones who exemplify what they teach, not in those who have simply mastered the art of speaking confidently.

Until you have developed adequate knowledge and confidence to experiment on your own, avoid new procedures that you may have found in books, online or heard from various others whose knowledge and experience may be questioned. Don't take chances that may lead to problems later on.
